As the 2009 World Championships in Val d’Isere approach and the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver dawn, Salomon reasserts its commitment to Racing and shows total dedication from all members of its Racing service team towards all Salomon athletes:
Hannes Reichelt, the 2008 Super-G Crystal Globe winner, and Raumed Bauman join Salomon
Outstanding winner of the 2008 World Cup Super-G, with 2 victories (Beaver Creek and Bormio) and a podium (2nd in Whistler), Austrian Hannes Reichelt is now also famous in the giant discipline since his first success in Whistler 2008. Hannes Reichelt, excellent all-rounder for many seasons, really stood out this winter at the highest level and chose to join Salomon this spring to attain his next objectives: win medals at the 2009 World Championships and the 2010 Olympic Games!
His compatriot, Austrian Klaus Kroell, experienced skier and downhill specialist, also had an impressive 2008 season, winning the 3rd podium of his career (3rd in Kvitjfell), five Top 10s and 8th World ranking in downhill: his all best world rating. Klaus is now confidently heading towards a first success and a ticket to the World Championships in Val d’Isere.
Following in Reichelt and Kroell’s path, the great Austrian hope Raumed Bauman also joined Salomon this spring. This promising all-rounder, a young 22 year old talent, already stood out in all disciplines entering the Top 15 this winter in slalom, giant, downhill and super combined with his first World Cup podium in Reiteralm.
Veronika Zuzulova and Akira Sasaki, great hopes in slalom, also join Salomon
Veronika Zuzulova, the young 24 year old Slovak, has explosed this season, standing 4 times on the podium in slalom and for the 1st time finishing 3rd in World Cup ranking of this discipline. Encouraged by her victories in Overall ranking of the European cups 2004 and 2007, Veronika Zuzulova has also shown talent in giant and combined. She chose to join Salomon this spring aiming for her first World Cup victories, but also for the Slalom Crystal Globe.
Akira Sasaki is also one of the most talented slalom specialists. Already rewarded three times with podiums in Shigakogen, Schladming 2006 and Wengen 2003, this hot headed Japanese skier has impressive style which should quickly enable him to earn his first success. Akira and Veronika will both be great outsiders for medals in 2009 and 2010!
Giorgio Rocca returns, dreams of gold for « The Little Prince » of slalom
Following a season of transition, after a serious knee injury, Italian Giogio Rocca has gained confidence thanks to really good performances this winter. For his 1st season with Salomon, he signed five TOP 10, with a remarkable 4th place in Zagreb and two 8th places in Wengen and Bormio. Winner of the 2006 slalom World Cup, Giorgio Rocca sets off again in quest of new victories and dreams of a first gold medal in the World Championships and Olympic Games following his three bronze medals (slalom and combined in Bormio 2005 and slalom in St Moritz 2003).
His compatriots, Davide Simoncelli and Alberto Schiepatti, two great giant specialists, will also be seeking victories next winter, especially on their favourite Alta Badia slope, but also of course on the slopes in Val d’Isere.
Ingrid Jacquemod and David Poisson: the French dream of medals in Val d’Isere
Winner of a World Cup downhill, and almost making the super-G podium, talented French lady Ingrid Jacquemod stepped up a level last winter, by also entering the Top 10 World Cup in giant with a remarkable 4th place in Bormio. Capable of winning a medal in each of these 3 disciplines, the skier from Val d’Isere will leap towards her home ground during the World Cup dreaming of medals on the Solaise slope. Her compatriot David Poisson, originally from the neighbouring Peisey Nancroix ski resort, will also be aiming to excel in front of the French crowd and wants to renew the feats he achieved in the Bormio World Cup (9th in downhill and Super-G). Returning to top level in 2008 following a serious injury, Yannick also asserted himself again in the Top 15 and is ready to surprise everyone.
François Bourque and Emily Brydon, on their way to the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver
Canadian Emily Brydon had her best season ever in 2008, winning her very first victory in Super-G World Cup in St Moritz as well as two other podiums. Classed 5th in worldwide ranking in Super-G and 10th in downhill, Emily dreams of medals in the coming Olympic Games 2010 in her home town in Vancouver and she will clearly be one of the favourites next winter in Val d’Isere.
Her compatriot, all-round skier, François Bourque, particularly impressive in giant with already five podiums under his belt in this discipline, will also be among the favourites in Vancouver. Having just missed a medal in the 2006 Olympic Games (4 th), he will be really keen to shine in his country and in the meantime leaves in quest of his first success in World Cup which will enable him to stand out in giant as well as in Super-G.
Beat Feuz, twice junior World Champion 2007, great Swiss hope, joins Salomon
Triple medalist in the 2007 Junior World Championships (gold in downhill, super-G and bronze in slalom), the great Swiss hope Beat Feuz will be back in 2009 following a knee injury which has deprived him of a 2008 season. Very impressive during his first World Cups (14th in downhill and 22nd in super-G in Lenzeheide), Beat is already considered as one of the great future all-rounders of the White Circus.
