INTERVIEW
Let’s go back over your thoughts and feelings at the time of your two podiums last winter in Hinterstoder and Kranska?
Last year, I aimed for one victory, and I almost reached my goal with two podiums and I am very satisfied.
And what about your most beautiful season in Giant with a 5th place finish overall?
Last season, I finished 7th so 5th place suited me very well. My goal is to stay in the top five next winter.
Just like during the Olympic Games, you once again came very close to winning in Are with 2nd place of the first round: what have these two experiences given you?
During the Olympic Games, I was quite cautious during the 2nd round, but it didn’t work for me. So, during the World Championships, I gave all I could but unfortunately I went off course.
What are your objectives for 2008, a season without any big major races?
I only want one thing, to stand on the top of the podium: I want to win!
Up to now you’ve had a very versatile career. What are your objectives for the future on this subject?
I dream about winning the Crystal Globe overall so I have no choice: I must be the best all round.
What are your dreams for the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver?
To do what I didn’t do in Torino.
Skiing
What are your first memories?
I began at the age of 4 at the Saint Edgar ski center, near New Richmond in Gaspésie with my father. I had a hard time learning the technique and I was afraid of gaining speed. My father attached a cord to me to ski, but I really wanted to ride the snowmobile! But he persevered and at the end of one year, I had more control and began to like skiing.
I remember my first competitions with the New Richmond’s Pin Rouge club at Mont Castor in Matane. I was 10 years old. I went to the provincial championships at Mont Kanusta with my coach, Johanne Thibault and finished 2nd in giant slalom. I really liked this experience because I had progressed to the provincial level and this inspired to me to go further…
Who are your key figures?
My first coach, Johanne Thibault. She was the first person who gave me the taste for competition. She taught me to develop different techniques like visualization and to go beyond myself in a race.
My father because he gave me the taste of skiing. He taught me above all that ski competitions should be fun and done with pleasure. My parents always encouraged me to continue in my athletic discipline. With my family, friends and those around me, who always believed in my potential and always supported me.
And your technician?
He is very important for my success. We get along very well; he is a good friend since we are the same age.
What about your all-around ski dreams and reference skiers on the circuit?
I would like to be capable of stepping up to the podium in all 3 disciplines. My reference skiers are Benni Raich, Herman Maier, Daron Ralves… they worked hard to get where they are!
Tell us about your first Giant Slalom podium in Alta Badia 2006 and also a triple for Salomon?
It’s a feeling you want to have in each race, but it’s not easy! And it proves that not only Atomic can cover a podium.
